RAZAAN KILLAWI

Razaan Killawi is a Syrian-American multidisciplinary artist and designer from Detroit. Her work examines the human toll of authoritarian power, displacement, and political violence across both the Middle East and the United States. Drawing from Islamic traditions of prayer and supplication, she explores how ritual can become a language for coping, healing, and imagining futures beyond loss.

Shaped by her experiences within the Syrian diaspora, Killawi’s practice is guided by a belief in art as both testimony and sanctuary. Working across illustration, installation, and video, she creates works that move between personal testimony and political reflection.
